I suppose that if you are reading this, then you have decided you want to work via the internet or start an internet business…or at least you are thinking about it. But choosing an internet business that is right for you can take some time and requires a little planning on your part.
In case you did not know, there is a large variety of different types of businesses that can be run solely on the internet. And it is up to you to figure out which one you want to dive into. Basically there are two paths with many different roads branching off of each path.
Do you want to work for yourself, thus being an owner of a business. Or are you satisfied with just working via the internet in your own home? Both of these options have their advantages and what may work for one person will not work for another. For instance, I cannot spend hours working on my computer for an hourly wage. It is just not in my blood. But other people like the convenience of doing their job and then when their time is done, they are done, which brings me to the first in a series of questions you must ask yourself when choosing an internet business.
- How much time do you have to devote to your business or job?
Do you only have a few hours a day? Do you have a family or another job that will take up much of your time? Are you willing to work weekends? There is no right or wrong answer here. But you have to be honest with yourself. Jobs/businesses that may only require a few hours are things such as selling stuff on Ebay or writing articles for a buyer. With these, you will be able to make some money as you go along and not have to wait a long time before seeing any profits. But if you choose to go into Internet Marketing and you only have a couple of hours, five days a week, then it will take longer for you to reap any rewards. - Do you want to work with others or by yourself?
Are you the type of person that needs to have contact with others, either by having employees or talking to suppliers on the phone? If so, then the secluded life of an article writer or internet marketer may not be a good fit for you. Myself, I love not having the constant interruptions of others. I enjoy running this one person ship. I have no problem sitting at my computer for hours and working. But some people get stir crazy and need to get out and around peers. - Are you self disciplined or do you need to have deadlines with consequences?
Are you the type of person who is internally motivated to get the job done without the need for anyone telling you what to do? Or are you the type of worker who needs to have a deadline that has to be met in order to keep yourself on track? If so, then article writing or eBay/ecommerce may be good for you. These have deadlines. Articles must be finished on time and items must be shipped on time. If not, you risk the chance of losing your writing job or dealing with a charge back. Myself, I am a self motivator. Even though I know that no one is going to fire me if I do not get that day’s work done, I will still do it. No matter if I am tired, sick, or want to go shopping. I will get the day’s work done and even work weekends if I have to.
Take some time with these questions. Maybe even ask your spouse or a close friend what they feel is right for you. Maybe take a trial run and see if you are good at keeping self imposed deadlines or if you need outside forces to keep you on track. And once you have figured this out, then you have to look at the many possible business that branch off of the main path and which one you would enjoy doing for an extended period of time.
